I know most people make resolutions at the start of the year, or the start of the school year, or beginning of something else. Well, I am starting resolutions at the start of this week.
I've noticed Mike and myself getting complacent with our lives so I've decided to spruce them up a bit. I don't know exactly when it hit me. I guess maybe the other day when I was reading the August Ensign article, "The Tradition of a Balanced, Righteous Life." The article mainly talks about learning spiritual things before secular things and how to teach your children balance. I guess it kind of has to do with my new resolutions, but not completely. It was probably just some personal revelation while I was reading this article.
Either way, Mike and I are changing things up a bit. I'm making us read scriptures and pray together every night. We've tried it before, but we are kind of night owls and stay up way late til we're about to fall asleep so we are too tired to read or pray. (I know those are kind of the cliche reasons, but why do you think they became cliche?) So I'm making us go to bed just a little bit earlier so we can read together, pray together then say our personal prayers.
The next resolution, Mike beat me to. He has been going running almost everyday for a little bit now. So I've decided to get up between 7:30 and 8 am and go walking/jogging. I'm so out of shape that I have to work my way up to running. But I think this is a good start. Then along with this one, we are going to be eating healthier. I've been trying to buy healthy food when I go grocery shopping but there are always those tubs of ice cream or box of cookies that breaks me down. Well, they will break me down no longer! I've also decided to do this one because I'm pretty sure within the next year we will try to start having kids and I want my body to be as healthy as I can get it to help grow a little body. I've been taking vitamins for the last couple years since my doctor told me to when I started birth control. Well, I decided, why should I be healthy and taking vitamins and not Mike? So last time I went grocery shopping I bought Mike some One A Day for Men. I am slightly surprised that he has been taking them everyday since I bought them.
The last resolution, I figured this would help me be all around healthy. I've considered my spiritual health, and my body's physical health. So the last, I guess kinda goes with physical. I've started to make Mike and myself floss our teeth every night and use mouth wash every morning, after brushing our teeth of course.
Ok I lied, that wasn't my last resolution. It was the last one that involved both me and Mike. But this last one I just thought of last night as I was laying in bed just pondering life and things. I've decided to start writing in a journal again. I realized I want my children to be able to read about our struggle during the first of our marriage and everything we will go through to bring them to the earth. I know most people use their blogs as journals, but anyone can read a blog. And there are things that I would write in my journal that will be too personal to put in a blog for just anyone to read. So today, I'm off to purchase a good journal so I can keep track of everything that happens with us from now on.
Wish us luck in our new goals! Hopefully we keep on keeping on!
